    The National Asian American Bar Association (NAPABA) is pleased to present Officer and Director candidates for 2020-21, who have been approved by the Nominating and Elections Committee for their demonstrated leadership capabilities, passion about NAPABA’s mission, and skill sets and perspectives that align with NAPABA’s strategies, goals, and needs. Information about each candidate is available here.

    The Committee believes the active participation of members is essential to a vibrant and diverse organization, and encourages any NAPABA member in good standing to submit endorsements of the 2020-21 candidates to support NAPABA’s electoral process and determine Board leadership for future years. NAPABA will accept endorsements through September 4, at 8:00 pm EST.

    Join Theater Mu for a virtual cabaret fundraiser to celebrate the resiliency of the arts and support Mu’s mission. The evening will be hosted by Lily Tung Crystal and Saymoukda Vongsay, and feature other virtual performances from Mu artists.     Theater Mu is the Twin Cities’ Asian American theater company and second largest Asian American theater in the country. Mu seeks to celebrate and empower Asian Americans through theater, and produce performances born of arts, equity, and justice. Find out more here.

    The Stepping Up Breakfast is Lawyers Concerned for Lawyers' (LCL) first annual breakfast aimed at encouraging the legal community to Step Up to address the issue of well-being within the profession. LCL's theme this year is One Small Step. LCL is your partner in taking those small steps toward well-being.

    Keynote speaker, Judge Donovan Frank, will address the importance and benefit of One Small Step, personally and professionally. The breakfast will be emceed by MNAPABA member Judge Gail Chang Bohr. Details and tickets here.

    On April 2, Asians from across Minnesota will gather at the Capitol to advocate for their communities, meet with legislators, and learn about the legislative process. The day will start with a brief training about how to talk to legislators and go over key priority issues. After the training, attendees will have the opportunity to meet with their Minnesota State Legislators to discuss issues that matter to them and their communities. This event will go from 9am to 4pm.

    Writer, Professor, and Director of the Immigration History Center at the University of Minnesota Erika Lee will hold an event for her newest book, America for Americans: A History of Xenophobia in the United States, on March 18th in St. Paul.     Our 2020 Keynote Speaker: Claudia Romo Edelman

    This year, we have the honor of hosting Ms. Claudia Romo Edelman, founder of the New York-based non-profit We Are All Human Foundation and formerly of the Executive Office of the Secretary-General of the United Nations. Claudia is dedicated to advancing the agenda of diversity, inclusion, and equity through developing and hosting events on a global, regional, and national scale, along with conducting and publishing research.

    A Mexican-Swiss Diplomat, Claudia is also a Founder and Co-Host of ‘Global GoalsCast,’ a podcast distributed by CBS News Digital, which highlights global progress through the stories of champions making a difference.

    Through an extraordinary background with global organizations, including the United Nations and the World Economic Forum, Claudia has, for 25 years, worked on humanitarian causes with agencies such as UNICEF, the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR), and the Global Fund to fight AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria. She is an advocate for social causes, a journalist, and a diplomat with a track record on shaping public opinion, building the narrative on perception change, creating global campaigns and mobilization efforts, and leading partnership activation.     On behalf of the Minnesota Chapter of the Federal Bar Association, you are invited to join us for a panel discussion led by Attorney General Keith Ellison. The discussion topic will be on the challenges encountered by diverse attorneys as well the importance of cultural competency in the legal profession. Attorney General Ellison will be joined by two other prominent attorneys in the community. 

    The event will be held at the Minneapolis Club on Wednesday, February 19, 2020 at 4:30 p.m. There will be complimentary appetizers and beverages. FBA membership is not required as this is a free event open to everyone.
