As part of its in-house counsel CLE series, the law firm of Cozen O'Connor will host a panel discussion on the ethical challenges facing today’s in-house counsel. The panel discussion, entitled “Avoiding Ethical Pitfalls: Tips for In-House Counsel”, will be held on Wednesday, June 12, 2019 at the APEX Conference Center, 40 South 7th Street (Ground Level of the City Center), in Minneapolis.

Panel participants include: Heather Marx and Miguel Alexander Pozo, members of Cozen O’Connor’s Commercial Litigation Department, Brooke Tassoni, Senior Lawyer and Team Lead of the Litigation Practice at Cargill Inc., and Judge Peter M. Reyes, Jr., of the Minnesota Court of Appeals.

The conversation will focus on some of the most overlooked challenges facing today’s in-house counsel including the ethics surrounding a successful in-house practice. The multiple roles required of in-house counsel and the nature of a corporate practice create potential conflicts and unique ethical challenges. In this ethics program, a panel of current and former in-house counsel will provide best practices and advice on how to:
    • Protect work product materials both in domestic and international transactions
    • Identify the corporate client and the limits of applicable privileges
    • Avoid the unauthorized practice of law when you provide advice to clients that cross multiple jurisdictions
    • Avoid blurring the line between legal and business advice

Welcome and registration is from 3:00 – 3:30 p.m., the panel presentation is from 3:30 – 5:00 pm, and a reception featuring light fare is scheduled from 5:00 – 6:30 p.m. The reception will feature a fireside chat on “Gender in the Legal Profession: The Shattered But Unbroken Glass Ceiling” with Ann Anaya, Global Diversity Officer at 3M, Luz Maria Frias, Executive Coach & Race Equity Strategist and Anna Richo, SVP, General Counsel, Chief Compliance Officer, and Corporate Secretary, Cargill, Inc.

For more information on the panel, see www.cozen.com or to RSVP, send an email response to Lori Scheetz at lscheetz@cozen.com. CLE applied for upon request.
