Professor Wu, UC Hastings College of the Law Distinguished Professor, has been voted the most “influential” dean in legal education by National Jurist magazine. He has taught at or lead a number of esteemed institutions, including Howard University School of Law (faculty), Wayne State University Law School (Dean), University of Michigan (visiting professor), Columbia University (adjunct professor), Stanford University (Teaching Fellow), and Peking University School of Transnational Law.

He is the author of Yellow: Race in America Beyond Black and White and co-author of Race, Rights and Reparation: Law and the Japanese American Internment. His work has appeared in the New York Times and the Washington Post. He blogs regularly for the Huffington Post.

In April 2016, Professor Wu was elected Chair of the Committee of 100. Founded by individuals such as cellist Yo-Yo Ma and architect IM Pei, this non-profit made up of Chinese-Americans who have achieved the highest levels of success, works on twin missions of promoting good relations between the U.S. and China and the civic engagement of Chinese-Americans. 

Prior to his academic career, Professor Wu held a clerkship with the late U.S. District Judge Frank J. Battisti and practiced law with the firm of Morrison & Foerster in San Francisco.
