American Constitutional Society (ACS): Lessons Learned from Ferguson- Building Community Trust with the Police, the Courts, and the Criminal Justice System

  • Wed, July 29, 2020
  • 5:30 PM - 6:30 PM
  • Virtual

MNAPABA is proud to sponsor an ACS discussion about community-police relationships, the fairness of the criminal justice system, and public safety, featuring the Honroable Mark Kappelhoff of the Fourth Judicial District of Minnesota.

Prior to joining the bench, Judge Kappelhoff participated in the U.S. Department of Justice’s civil rights investigation of the Ferguson Police Department. In this event, Judge Kappelhoff will discuss the Ferguson investigation; the findings; how the findings of that investigation provide important insights for law enforcement, lawyers, judges, the judiciary, the criminal justice system, and the community on the issues of building police-community trust; the issues of bias in the criminal justice system; and ensuring public safety. He will also provide an overview of the important roles that lawyers, judges, and law enforcement officials can play in ensuring a more equitable justice system.

A CLE elimination of bias credit for 1.0 hour has been approved for this event.
