    Join the Great North Innocence Project (GN-IP) for its 20th annual Benefit for Innocence. This year's theme is "The Science of Justice." This is the first gathering in two years, and will include amusements, forensic science-themed food stations and a signature cocktail. The benefit will celebrate GN-IP's clients, supporters, and successes in freeing the innocent and reforming the criminal legal system. There will be a keynote address by Innocence Project co-founder, Peter Neufeld, with the emcee for the evening, Chanda Smith Baker (Minneapolis Foundation's Chief impact officer and Senior VP).     Join Twin Cities Diversity in Practice and Minnesota Women Lawyers for the annual Women of Color in the Law event. This week of casual gatherings will focus on building community between neighbors, colleagues, and women of color in the law. Between September 16 and 25, volunteers will host small groups of 10-12 individuals in backyards, restaurants, and parks for camaraderie and conversation. Each conversation will center the experiences of Black, Indigenous, and other women of color. All women, non-binary and transgender people, and allies, are welcome.     The Minnesota Supreme Court is seeking applicants for the Judicial Selection Committee (2nd Judicial District, Public Member). The current Commissioner member has moved, and her vacancy needs to be filled. Interested persons for this role will NOT be a licensed attorney but must reside in Ramsey County.     The Japanese American Citizens League is organizing a lei-making workshop the day before the investiture of Judge Kesha Tanabe. The workshop will be led by Molly Yee, the owner of Studio Emme. Everyone who makes a lei will be encouraged to wear it to the investiture and reception. More information to come.

    The Twin Cities Harvest Moon Festival will be taking place this year at Phalen Regional Park (1640 Phalen Dr., St. Paul, 55106), celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival. Event highlights include music and dance performances, international costume demonstrations, cultural displays, poetry and drawing contest awards, gourmet foods and mooncake tasting, Xianjiang Pavilion photo time, and a children's playground. In addition to a great Chinese cultural presentation, there will also be an hour-long Hmong program. The festival is organized by the Association of Sino-American Neocultural Society (ASANE) and the Minnesota China Friendship Garden Society.

    Following its two-year investigation, the Minnesota Department of Human Rights (MDHR) released its findings in April 2022 that announced the City of Minneapolis and the Minneapolis Police Department (MPD) engage in a pattern or practice of race discrimination in violation of the Minnesota Human Rights Act. MDHR will work alongside the City to develop a consent decree, a court-enforced, legally binding agreement, to ensure reforms within the MPD. Join WILD to learn more about the findings of the MDHR report, the consent decree process, and the potential impact on public safety reform. Panelists include Irina Vaynerman (Deputy Commissioner Department of Human Rights), Justin Terrell (Executive Director, Minnesota Justice Research Center), and Rachel Moran (Professor, University of St. Thomas School of Law), and moderated by Lucas Kaster (Attorney, Nichols Kaster).
