    Please join the American Constitution Society and The Appellate Project for a virtual discussion aimed at demystifying judicial clerkships, specifically for law students of color and first-generation law students. Participants will learn more about the clerkship process, whether they should apply for a clerkship, the differences between state, federal, trial, and appellate clerkships, the qualities that judges look for when hiring judicial clerks, and the day-to-day experience of being a clerk. Panelists will also provide best practices for navigating the clerkship application process and discuss the importance of increasing diversity in judicial clerkships.     Senators Klobuchar and Smith have announced the formation of their Judicial Selection Committee for the vacancy on the U.S. District Court in the District of Minnesota. Those wishing to be considered for the position of should submit a letter of interest and resume by February 29, 2024 to the Judicial Selection Committee.     The Governor has opened a selection process for two vacancies on the Minnesota Supreme Court. Individuals wishing to apply may request an application by contacting the Office of the Governor and Lt. Governor via email at Judicial.Selection@state.mn.us. Applications are due by 4:00 p.m. on February 26 and should be addressed to Governor Tim Walz.

    There are currently two vacancies in the Ninth Judicial District. Judges selected will be chambered in Mahnomen or Bemidji. Individuals wishing to apply may request an application by contacting the Office of the Governor and Lt. Governor via e-mail at Judicial.Selection@state.mn.us. Application materials are due by 4:00 pm on February 22 and should be addressed to the chair of the commission, Erin Sindberg Porter. The commission expects to hold interviews in mid-March.

    The 39th McGee National Civil Rights Moot Court competition is in need of approximately 20 people to judge and score briefs. Brief judges commit to 2-3 hours to read and score three briefs, which would be sent via email around January 22, with scores due by February 16. There is a free CLE and a bench memo to help judges prepare to review the briefs. To learn more and to sign up, please click here. Note: the link allows for signing up to be an oral argument judge during the virtual competition from March 6-9, 2024, but the organizers are particularly focused on recruiting brief judges, which can be noted in the comments section.     The Commission on Judicial Selection has announced a vacancy in Minnesota's Tenth Judicial District, which will be chambered in Stillwater in Washington County. Individuals wishing to apply may request an application by contacting the Office of the Governor and Lt. Governor via email at Judicial.Selection@state.mn.us. Applications are due by 4:00 p.m. on January 25 and should be addressed to the chair of the commission, Erin Sindberg-Porter. Interviews are expected to occur in mid-February.
